Business Development / Fundraising freelancer

About us

Data Activists is a nonprofit organisation that empowers smaller charitable organisations with data/tech and conducts data-driven advocacy for social change.

Our mission is twofold:

  • Provide data/tech/AI services to charities that may not have the budget for dedicated staff or external IT support, as the lack of technical expertise and robust infrastructure severely limits the ability of nonprofit organisations in their pursuit of social impact.
  • Conduct and disseminate data-driven research for policy advocacy, in collaboration with aligned organisations or on our own.

Our clients and collaborators include organisations across the UK and the EU, working on refugee rights, the Gaza genocide, and armed conflict.

What you’ll be doing

The main job is finding organisations that could benefit from our services, or who would allow us to increase our impact, and getting them into a conversation with us.

Concretely:

  • Researching and identifying potential clients (nonprofits and NGOs in the refugee, migration, and human rights space)
  • Identifying aligned organisations for potential research collaboration
  • Identifying potential funders and supporting grant applications
  • Communicating our training offer to relevant contacts

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in business development, partnerships, or outreach, ideally in the nonprofit or NGO sector
  • Familiarity with the refugee, migration, or human rights sector
  • Enough understanding of data/tech/AI to explain what we do without needing a script for every conversation
  • Experience with grant research or fundraising is a plus but not required

Terms

  • Freelance contract
  • Fully remote
  • ~10 hours per month
  • £30–40/h depending on experience, plus a success fee of £200–400 per signed client (depending on contract size)
